M4R engine reliability: strengths, watch-outs, and known issues

Many cases of sudden power loss in extreme heat are described on forums. The cause is often the air temperature sensor, which here is combined with the MAF sensor.

The aluminum cylinder head is very delicate and fears not only overheating but also excessive force when tightening spark plugs. Be extremely careful.

Also, idle speed sometimes fluctuates due to throttle contamination, the accessory belt often squeals, or valves that need adjustment rattle.
