Bearing cap spinning

Often reported

The most known problem of these engines is spinning of connecting rod bearing caps. This happens especially often with engines from Europe, where oil is changed every 30,000 km. Our regulations prescribe an oil change interval of 10,000 km and spins are rare, but many owners still prefer to renew the bearings every 60,000 km.

Delphi fuel system

Heavier before 2009

Most diesels before 2009 are equipped with a Delphi Common Rail system, which does not tolerate air ingress, clogged fuel filter, or poor diesel. For any of these reasons, it starts generating metal shavings and primarily clogs the injectors. Also, this metal dust significantly reduces the life of the turbocharger and oil pump.

Siemens fuel system

Often reported

The fuel system from Siemens or Continental is much more reliable, but its repair costs more; the piezo injectors alone are several times more expensive. Therefore, there is no clear opinion on which brand's equipment is better.
