Strength: GDi injection makes the engine more economical. Common watch-out: Rarely found on our market. OEM life note: not limited; often cited in practice: 150,000 km. This family appears across roughly 6 fitment bands in 2011–2020; service history, oil/cooling records, and engine-code verification matter.

Since these engines are rare on our market, there is little information about scoring, but they suffer from the same issues as their port-injection siblings: catalyst debris is sucked into cylinders and thin cast iron liners expand.
For less aggressive drivers, the timing chain can last several hundred thousand kilometers, but with aggressive driving and hard starts, its life drops to 100-150 thousand km. When stretched, the chain does not break but jumps, almost always bending valves.
As with all direct injection engines, there is a problem with carbon deposits on intake valves, preventing them from closing tightly. This leads to unstable engine operation and the need for decarbonization.
Owners often complain on forums about oil leaks due to weak gaskets, relatively low life of the water pump, alternator and other accessories, and early engines had weak bearings that sometimes spun.
