Family
F4R
Strength: Decent lifespan up to 400,000 km. Common watch-out: Detonation on 92-octane gasoline. OEM life note: 60,000 km; often cited in practice: 80,000 km. This family appears across roughly 25 fitment bands in 2000–2015; service history, oil/cooling records, and engine-code verification matter.

Most frequent / serious themes first; amber labels mark year gates.
Early versions had compression ratio around 10 and were reliable, but with Euro 5 the ratio was raised to 11 and later to 11.2. Frequent use of 92-octane gasoline causes detonation and piston damage.
The problematic area is the camshaft phaser on the intake camshaft. It often starts rattling before 100,000 km, and replacement is expensive.
Near 100,000 km, oil consumption often appears up to 1 liter per 1000 km. The cause is usually stuck piston rings and hardened valve stem seals.
The generally reliable engine constantly suffers from electrical faults. Most often, ignition coils and the crankshaft position sensor fail.
Many owners experience unstable engine operation. It is recommended to start by cleaning the throttle body, then cleaning the injectors with special agents.
The rear engine mount has a modest lifespan, and oil leaks are common, especially from the rear crankshaft seal.
