This is a very reliable and durable unit without any pronounced weak points, but its aluminum head does not like overheating and tuning: cracks immediately appear from the valve seats to the spark plug wells. Therefore, a cylinder head at a scrapyard costs as much as a whole engine.
Gaskets and seals here are not known for their durability, and frequent overheating worsens the situation. So the appearance of oil in the spark plug wells indicates a breach of some gasket. If replacing them does not help, check the condition of the valve cover stud seals.
Overall, the timing chain is quite reliable and many drive 300-400 thousand km without problems, however, overly active drivers often have to replace chains by 100,000 km. Also, the tensioner shoe of the long timing chain wears out quite quickly in this engine.
On forums, people often complain about the ignition system and especially high-voltage wires, constantly fluctuating engine speed due to contamination of fuel injectors, IAC or MAF, and hydraulic lifters do not tolerate wrong oil and may start knocking before 100,000 km.
