Apart from early production engines, this is a very reliable engine with huge lifespan. Most complaints on forums are about oil consumption due to wear of rings and valve stem seals. The main thing is not to miss the oil level, as spinning of crankshaft bearings is not uncommon here.
Second most common complaint is floating idle due to dirty throttle, idle air control valve, broken wiring, or burnt lambda sensors. Also, when replacing spark plugs, the intake manifold is removed and it does not always seal tightly.
This engine has a very thick timing belt that lasts longer than the specified 90,000 km. But it is often damaged by oil leaks from a worn front cover gasket. The life of an oil-soaked belt is greatly reduced, and when it breaks, valves usually bend.
Other weak points include not the most reliable ignition system, hydraulic lifters that are sensitive to oil and may start tapping by 100,000 km, and regular coolant leaks causing overheating.
