This engine is very reliable, but there are many reviews online about destruction of such engines. The problem most often concerns engines of the last years of production and its essence is as follows: due to low-quality bolts, the connecting rod breaks, which then pierces the block.
The timing belt is very loaded here: besides the camshaft, it also drives the water pump and oil pump. Therefore, there are many reasons for its breakage, but fortunately the valves usually do not bend.
After 200,000 km, oil scraper rings often stick and oil consumption appears, and until you decide on a major overhaul, it can reach one liter per 1000 km.
This is an old engine, usually with high mileage, and minor breakdowns happen constantly. The ignition system regularly malfunctions, but this primarily concerns the first modifications; the engine mounts and its lambda probe are not highly reliable. Since there are no hydraulic lifters, valve clearances need to be adjusted every 100,000 km.
